Finnish swimming team's women did two national records in women's relay 4*50m medley during the European Championship held in Vienna, Austria 9th - 12th of December. The first record was made in the heats with the time 1.53,59. The other record brought 7th position in the finals with the time 1.52,85. Hanna-Maria's best personal position was 6th in 100m medley with a good time 1.02,23. See also the official web page of EC competition in Vienna.

Hanna-Maria swam two new personal bests in the Finnish GP in Kuopio. The personal records were achieved in the finals of 100m butterfly 1.01,70 and in the heat of 50m breaststroke 32,88. She participated in 7 events and had 12 starts alltogether within two days.

- 100m medley, 1. with time 1.02,33

Hanna-Maria has made two new Finnish national records in the World Championships held in Indianapolis, USA. Hanna-Maria swam records in 100m medley, first in the heats 1.01,55 and then in the finals 1.01,23. She has now 55 Finnish national records alltogether. Hanna-Maria's position in 100m medley was fourth. Check out also the official web pages of the Indianapolis World Championships.

Hanna-Maria participated in Grand Prix 3. competition on 24.9. - 26.9.2004 in Malmö, Sweden. Race was successful and Hanna-Maria won the 100m freestyle with a good time 54,09. Hanna-Maria was the best Finn in individual swimming events in Athens Olympics 2004. Her goal was to improve the results of the Sydney's Olympics and to get into semifinals in her main event, 100 meters freestyle. Hanna-Maria was 18th in her main event in Sydney's Olympics 2000, so finally the 12th position in the semifinals in Athens fullfilled her goals. "I am satisfied with my performance. I was able to improve the position compared to the previous Olympics, even though I didn't break my own records this time", says Hanna-Maria after the competition.
Hanna-Maria swam three events in total and the results are stated below:
- 100m freestyle, 12th with time 55,59
- 100m backstroke, 36th with time 1.05,55
- 50m freestyle, 24th with time 26,01

Hanna-Maria was 7th at 100 meters freestyle in European Championship held in Madrid, Spain. Hanna-Maria improved her time both in the heats and in the semi-finals. The finals was very tight and so was the results. Hanna-Maria's time was 55,36. Hanna-Maria also swam 100 meters backstroke and 50 meters freestyle. Her position in 100 meters backstroke was 17. Hanna-Maria has been nominated as "the Eeva of the year" along with the Finnish President Tarja Halonen and member of Finnish Parliament Leena Harkimo. The Eeva of the year is an valuable nomination in finland that is been given yearly for three persons who have represented women's rights, values and other similar aspects well.
Hanna-Maria says "I value this nomination a lot and I am more than grateful for the people who voted for me in Eeva magazine. Especially it is nice to know that not only younger but also older generation has noticed my sport achivements!".

Hanna-maria made good results at World Cup held in New York 30.1.-31.1.2004. Hanna-Maria participated in the World Cup held in New York by swimming 50m and 100m freestyle. Even thought she have flu she managed to get 5th place in 50m freestyle (28.13) and 2nd place in 100m freestyle (53.12).

TYR swimwear producer and Hanna-Maria has started cooperation. Today it was officially announced that Hanna-maria joins in the top team of TYR sponsored athletics. The press conference took place at the head quarters of TYR, New York. Hanna-Maria was also photographed at TYR's studios and some of the pictures will be presented in the gallery page soon. Hanna-Maria is happy with TYR's brand new swimwear products and will no doubt participate in the Athens Olympics 2004 with TYR's swimmwear products.
