All my older brothers were swimmers at the time when I was born. Thus I started to spend my time by the pool watching closely my brothers already in my early childhood. Most of the time I was also playing in the pool, trying to learn how to swim. I started to practise swimming seriously at the age of 5, in the swimming club called Keravan Uimarit during the Autumn 1990. The training became more challenging when I was selected to the Finnish national team (junior level) during the Autumn 1995.

I enjoyed a lot of competitions, thus I participated in so many competitions with a success that varied a lot. One of my great dream came true when I was able to represent Finland in my first international competition. This international junior level race was held in Praha 1997.

I swam my first Finnish national record in Denmark, Greve 50m freestyle in long course during January 1999. During the same year I received the first medal from the recognized international race; bronze in European Junior Championship, Moscow. Next year I won European Junior Championship in 100m and 50m freestyle.

After these achievements I have moved to the adult division where all challenges are still ahead!

In Barcelona's World Championship I succeeded in 100m freestyle perfectly. I was first in heats, semi-finals and finally in the finals - being World Champion of the year 2003. In the Athen's Olympics 2004 I improved my positions compared to the previous Olympics in Sydney 2000. However I wasn't completely satisfied since I expected a bit better results of it.

My main objective was Beijing's Olympic Games in 2008. I was heading towards Olympics systematically training and competing. My goal there was to get medal. I didn't get medal after all but succeeded very well by achieving 4th position in 100m freestyle. I am very happy improving so well compared to the previous Olympics, where I was 12.

Now my main goal is Olympic Games in London 2012 where I am heading systematically training and competing. My goal is to get medal in the Olympics - preferably in my favorite event 100m freestyle.
